Two Taxpayers

Empty wine glasses

there’s a ring on your hand

you and me, our two left feet

falling into rhythm under the eclipse

We paint the walls of our shared apartment

every now and then, we sit in silence

and take turns changing bed sheets

arranging your things among my things

We run errands on a Tuesday

bickering over which brand of milk

as my left hand carries the basket

and the other holds your hand

Going over the grocery list

dogs running around, a cat or two

with my coffee-stained smile

and your aching sweet tooth

Silhouettes looming, I embrace you every night

laughing around and doing whatever

content just brushing my teeth with you

and watching you paint as I write its story
