De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) Green Stallion’s aggressive and fast-paced defense is the focal point of the win against the Stallions of the Technological Research for Advanced Computer Education (TRACE) College, 94-91, for the opening game of the 12th United Collegiate Championship League (UCCL) held at First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) College, Aug 18.
Green Stallion Jeremie Capili marked an impressive performance from his hot shooting streak, knocking down four shots from beyond the arc which led the way for the DLSL squad.
DLSL faced a tough game nonetheless against TRACE College as the latter forced an overtime play at the end of the fourth quarter, tying at 85.
For the last five seconds of the match, accurate free throws paved the way for the Green Stallions to take the lead.
“Hindi naging madali ‘yung first game namin pero ayos na rin para ma-train yung iba kong team mates kasi walo yung rookies namin at tatlo naman yung gumraduate,” DLSL team captain, Cholo Macario said.
DLSL coach Michael Gonzales emphasized “Tulong-tulong lang. Walang sisihan dito.” He also encouraged the rookies to step-up and shine on the court as it was their first time to play with the veterans.
Last season, DLSL finished at the second runner-up position behind first runner-up TRACE College and champion Olivares College.
UCCL is a basketball league for colleges and universities in the Calabarzon region with 24 participating schools this season.
