It was quite an introduction.
De La Salle Lipa (DLSL) Lady Stallions opened the 19th season of the Southern Luzon Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SLCUAA) by sweeping the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta Biñan (UPHSL) Lady Atlas, 25-6, 29-28, 25-13, at the SENTRUM, Sept 1.
Errors and reception became the achilles heel of the Atlas which was the squad from Lipa capitalized on in the opening set.
DLSL patroned a 17-3 run that forced UPHSL to call time to huddle up, but it was too late to recover from the sizeable gap, 25-6.
Looking to mount a comeback, Atlas twisted the end of the second set and forced error after error which sparked a 4-1 run to tie at 25.
Both teams exchanged blows one after another but it was Alby Cubilla’s smart attack which lifted the Stallions over Atlas, 29-27.
The second set loss marked the second wind from UPHSL, in the final part Atlas showed minimal effort from the defensive end which gassed them out of the game.
Meanwhile, the spikers from DLSL continued their barrage and ended the match for the win from an attack by Rose Punzalan closing the last set with 25-13.
Lady stallions struck the opening volley match at SLCUAA with straight wins in three sets.
