The Cineberde film festival of De La Salle Lipa (DLSL)’s AB Communication department  is back in-person since 2018 to feature seven entries from this year’s graduating batch to be held at the Diokno Auditorium on May 6.

According to Kyle Millave, Cineberde 11 project head, this year’s theme is a revamp of the original slogan because the thesis outputs are not limited to only short films and will feature other media such as an online discussion forum, a radio drama, and a documentary:

  1. Ang Korona
  2. 15 Seconds
  3. Atin-Atin Lang
  4. Una’t Huli
  5. My Eyes Are Up Here
  6. Alon
  7. Sa Aplaya, Doon, Sa Malayo

“Cineberde’s original slogan was ‘Ang Kulay ng Indie Dine’” tapos na spin-off naman siya during Cineberde rewind where the slogan became, ‘Ang Naging Kulay ng Indie Dine’. For Cineberde 11 naman […] we created a concept na ‘Ang Iba’t Ibang Kulay ng Indie Dine’ to introduce the new outputs available,” Millave said.

Dionne Calosa, the director and writer of this year’s best thesis, Sa Aplaya, Doon, Sa Malayo, a documentary to shed light on the situation of Isla Verde’s fisherman during the period of fossil gas expansion, described their thesis aim to be the voice of the people who live on Isla Verde.

“Ang goal ng dokyu namin ay ang ihayag na ang buhay ng mga taga-Isla Verde ay isang protesta. […] Kaya kami gumawa, nagsulat, nagtahi ng istoryang ito—para tayong mga nasa ciudad, makita natin ang karanasang malayo sa atin. Kaya rin ganon ang title, malayu-layo pa para pakinggan ng gobyerno,” said Calosa.

Cineberde 11 is the first in-person Cineberde in five years after the implementation of the K-12 system that caused an enrollment gap for college and the pandemic prevented any in-person events. Moreover, the most recent Cineberde was held online last 2020 and featured past thesis outputs.

Millave said that Cineberde 11 was carefully organized with considerations to costs and safety especially after the pandemic, leading them to have the outputs not be screened at SM Cinema Lipa compared to the last in-person film festival.

“We opted to have the Cineberde 11 be screened at DLSL kasi medyo matagal na nawala sa limelight yung festival and we thought it might be difficult if we do it in SM Lipa right away,” said Millave.

Cineberde 11 will only be a one-day event where all seven thesis outputs will be shown to three batches of viewers from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Diokno Auditorium. Instructions to secure tickets are posted on the official Cineberde Facebook page.
