is there life on mars?
i’ve never been much of a bowie fan to probe
always swore i’ll never try durian,
just stuck to apples and grapes
never rode a plane,
heights made me hurl
so i never tried hiking,
thought sightseeing was a bore
i never liked the new,
but you did.
you beamed me up,
strapped me to metal boards,
stabbed me with needles,
and strangled me with wires.
you fed me moonstones—pretty sweet but risky—
marked crescents on moons, and on thighs
flew me around in saucers with lights,
placed me atop forts on planets i’ve never heard of
showed me a world beyond me,
just to leave me stranded back home
holding onto memories,
longing for the new
