In its 12th year, Cineberde, the annual film festival of De La Salle Lipa’s (DLSL) AB Communication Department, will feature undiscussed societal issues with six entries to be screened at the Diokno Auditorium on Feb. 7.
With the theme, “Ang Iba’t Ibang Kulay ng Indie Dine”, Cineberde 12 continues to welcome new media like radio drama and documentary, aside from short film alone:
- Taliwas
- Pagdungaw sa Banahaw
- Breadwinner
- Ang Kulay ng Hiraya
- Ang Kwento ni Mang Willy
- Sa Likod ng Banal na Tanglaw
According to Allain Bhel Sulibit, Cineberde 12 head, this year’s entries are deemed to be distinctive from the previous ones as these will feature undiscussed topics, such as parental verbal aggression, child exploitation, abuse of power of Catholic leaders, and more.
“All throughout the years, ang purpose talaga ng Cineberde is to open the minds of the [audience] […] about issues that are not really being talked about […] I think magiging iba ‘yung Cineberde ngayon dahil siguro sa mga topic [na] mas diverse [at] intense,” said Sulibit.
Meanwhile, Jose Renier Mojado, Director of Photography and Editor of “Sa Likod ng Banal na Tanglaw”, this year’s best thesis, shared that they collectively decided to produce a short film that will focus on religion, specifically the injustices that happen in a Catholic school setting.
“‘Yung religion, parang gusto naming tahakin siguro kasi […] ever since bata kami [ay] nag-aaral na kami sa Catholic school […] Sa research namin, doon kami mas nag-deep dive na may mga abuses nga talagang nangyayari kahit sa mga maituturing nating mga holy institutions,” said Mojado.
Despite Cineberde’s hallmark of being conducted at SM Cinema Lipa, this year’s film festival opted to continue its screening at Diokno Auditorium due to the repercussions of the pandemic.
“Sadly, kailangan nating bumalik dito sa La Salle, specifically sa Diokno Auditorium, dahil sa pandemic na nangyari. Slowly by slowly, makaka-adjust [din tayo], malay ninyo next year o sa future ay makabalik [ang Cineberde] sa kung saan talaga tayo nakilala,” said Sulibit.
Cineberde 12 is a one-day screening event divided into three schedules from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and open to Lasallian and non-Lasallian viewers at the Diokno Auditorium. Further information regarding this event can be accessed on Cineberde’s official Facebook page.
