The National Service Training Program (NSTP) Mural Making Contest participated by first-year college students returned in-campus, marking a special inclusion in De La Salle Lipa’s (DLSL) 61st Foundation Week celebration, Feb. 5.
From the poster making contest conducted last Jan. 6, 14 finalists advanced to compete in the mural making competition which followed the theme “Lasallians in Lipa: 61-derful Years of Faith, Service, and Communion in Mission”.
In an interview with Lavoxa, NSTP professor Joseph Angelou Ng shared that the incorporation of number 61 was aimed at emphasizing the competition’s relevance in this year’s foundation week celebration compared to the last contest held on school year 2015-2016.
“There were different mural making competitions in the past but they weren’t always part of the school fair, so I think that makes [the competition] more special this year,’’ said Ng.
Meanwhile, one of the finalists, Bea Latina Dela Cruz, a first-year marketing management student, shared that she has learned about integrity and accountability during this week-long competition as they remained committed to managing their time in finishing their mural.
“If we didn’t take responsibility, ‘di namin ito matatapos and we really have to push our disciplines na talagang araw-araw pumasok and gawin ‘tong art na ‘to kahit na sobrang init and sobrang hirap,” said Dela Cruz.
Another finalist, Bea Ysabele Antig, a first-year architecture student, said that besides this year’s theme, their mural was inspired by their eagerness to showcase the culture of Lasallians regardless of their differences.
“Gusto po namin ipakita ‘yung pinaka-culture ng La Salle, tied together with faith, service, and communion […] We wanted to showcase na we came from different areas and places [at] kahit na magkaiba tayong lahat, we are still being tied together by our Lasallian community,” said Antig.
The judging of the murals is scheduled tomorrow, Feb. 13.
