While President Rodrigo Duterte declared National Day of Protest on the 45th anniversary of the declaration of the Martial Law, De La Salle Lipa celebrated “Peace One Day” as part of the International Day of Peace yesterday, Sept. 21.
The program started with the ‘Human Peace Formation’ at the Oval with the selected grade school, junior and senior high school, and college students as its participants.
The Peace Bell was also rung and Lasallians offered flowers and white flags at the Peace Pole, the campus’ symbols of peace.
A mass for peace was also held in the Capilla followed by the releasing of 30 doves that represents the community’s recognition for peace. Moreover, One Day One Dance was also presented with “Kapayapaan” as its theme.
In the afternoon, a talk and a prayer vigil for peace were also conducted.
However, Dr. Iezyl Torino, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academics, clarified that the National Day of Protest has nothing to do with the Peace One Day advocacy.
“Today is really the International Day of Peace around the world… it just coincided with the Martial Law Declaration,” said Torino.
The International Day of Peace is an annual celebration by the United Nation which focuses on engaging people throughout the world and showing support for refugees and migrants (www.un.org).
