The Student Government has decided to make inactive the Facebook group “DLSL Jobs and Internships” after the Career and Placement Office advised them that they should follow specific guidelines to ensure legal operations of involved companies, Jan. 17.
The said group was created by the SG last Dec. 25 to assist students and alumni in seeking employment and internship opportunities.
Members of the group include DLSL students and alumni as well as human resource personnel for a number of companies. As of press time, the group has 730 members, and 15 posts about job and internship offerings.
“Sabi nila, it is a good project but we have to follow the process of CHEd (Commission on Higher Education) and DOLE (Department of Labor and Employment) [in verifying employers],” SG Executive President Serine Obviar said.
Obviar also said that Career and Placement Office Head Mariefe Balane informed her that they already have a Facebook page tagged as DLSL Career and Placement where verified jobs and internship opportunities are posted.
To avoid non-compliance with the guidelines of the Career and Placement Office, Obviar said that the SG decided to stop accepting members and inviting HR personnel to post in the group.
Instead, SG Executive Vice President Rashid Quddus said that they will help companies to work with the office to process a career partnership with the school.
“Our remedy is to make the Facebook group inactive, but to continue to support the Career and Placement Office with our connections,” Quddus said.
Balane declined an interview with Lavoxa but said that they will release an official statement regarding the matter.
