The Lavoxa Group of Publications won the awards for best editorial and best photograph during the recently concluded PressPlay 2023 at De La Salle University (DLSU), May 13.
The winning article “Is De La Salle Lipa Non-Partisan or Just Plain Silent?” published last May 2022 was about the institution’s non-participation during the 2022 Philippine national elections.
In an interview with Lavoxa Online, former editor-in-chief Arn Alinea highlighted the motivation behind writing the article, saying that it needed to be done given the timing of its publication.
He also explained that it aimed to clarify the DLSL administration’s stand during the 2022 elections.
“I’m glad that it got recognition. But more than the award, I’m happy that it reached and touched more people and spread the message we wanted to send across, which is that it’s never okay to be silent and turn a blind eye to societal issues, especially educational institutions […] They have to lead students through words and actions,” Alinea said.
